The new planting on Hackney Marshes Main Marsh eastern fringe is a disaster.  A total disaster.  These are some of the 3,500 whips planted in March and dead before the end of May!  Even by Hackney Council standards this is staggeringly incompetent.

The trees were not mulched, there was no weed control.  Instead money was wasted on rabbit guards (there are no rabbits here) and canes.  The dry spring would have taken some but not all.  If the trees had simply been mulched, i.e. a mulch mat or even just woodchip, 1000s would still be alive.  Instead they are dead because LBH cannot manage contracts and relies on remote consultants who charge a lot but now little.
