This rather spectacular large insect is a Black & Yellow Longhorn beetle - Rutpela maculata.  The larvae feed in decaying wood for 2-3 years before pupating and emerging as adults. 

Abney's woodland nature reserve is ideal habitat for these large longhorn beetles.  So far 3 other longhorn beetle species have been discovered at Abney.
