The old oak near the pond in Springfield Park. The tree is slightly 'stage-headed' meaning it has died back leaving some dead branches at the top. This is probably caused by a root disease fungi called Giant Polypore (Meripilus giganteum) which effects several trees in this park. Oak being very disease resistant this tree is likely to out live anyone alive today.
